Sustainability at Ainslie Parklands Primary School (formerly Croydon West P.S.)

Follow the sustainable journey of our small school, Croydon West Primary School. We believe in providing learning opportunities through which our students can connect with nature, investigate environmental issues and develop a sense of wonder and enthusiasm for our planet.

Discovery Garden

This garden contains elements to encourage play and learning using natural materials. Our students designed this area which was previously a very uninspiring asphalt space. It now includes a rock area, a Banana Grove, a sand play area, a grassy hill, a hand water pump and a decked area. Many plants enhance this part of our garden. Level 1 and 2 made wind socks which are strung across the garden.
This is our old fashioned hand water pump. Our students enjoy using this and understand the effort which goes into pumping water this way. Water is pumped from a reservoir which has been filled by the rain. It is recycled and repumped, being refreshed from the rain or from water from our water tank. Apart from offering different types of play, it is a great opportunity to talk about the way some communities from around the world have to collect water for their daily usage.
